Pity the Texas Koi living in poorly designed or sited ponds. With high temperatures in the triple digits day after day, misplaced waters with full sun exposure and insufficient pond depth are likely to have some very heat stressed fish.
And at the Farm? For a forecast, click here. Unless one of those pesky thunderstorms is rolling
in, Brett and crew (including a visiting professor from Arkansas) are wearing wide brimmed hats, slathered with sunscreen, and probably a lot less comfortable than the Koi. These prized Cyprinids are only being culled or transported in the coolest part of the day if they must be worked at all. Brett has promised more pictures for the Koi Showcase when things cool down, but sees no sense in stressing fish needlessly for pictures. The Farm's boarding pond is doing fine with the heat.
It is deep enough to have cool depths for fish to shelter, loaded with natural foods growing in the bottom mud, and so turbid from feeding Koi that sunlight is all but shaded within a foot of the surface. If you're interested in traditional Japanese-style Koi boarding for next year, contact Brett. Brett's Appearances- Saturday-Sunday, September 5-6th
