Champion Koi
These koi fish belong to and are well cared for by Ralph Bates, koi collector extrodinaire and member of Moto Kara Koikai of Houston. Ralph lives with his lovely wife Diane and their fish in Port Arthur, Texas. Both of these fish were bred at Brett's Fish Farm. The surprising thing is that the sanke sold for a good price, in the hundreds. The shiro utsuri went out with a batch of pond koi and was discovered by Mr. Bates at a friend's home, that of Mac McGreevy. The fish was sold for less than $10!
This fish was a 2003 San Antonio Koi Show (TKFGS) Baby Champion. Later on it was awarded high accolades in San Diego and the San Antonio Koi Show Best in Size 4 this year (2004).
This Taisho Sanke has the very large tsubo sumi I find enjoyable, a characteristic that comes from the Jinbei side of the family. The other side is Dainichi (of course) and many of the Dainichi characterisitcs, intense red and black color, clear white background, maruzome scales (red follows the contour of the scales) are also prevalent in this koi. |
